Abstract

This study examines the interrelationships among spousal interactions, digital parenting, and marital quality. Data were collected in 2023 from 928 couples who were primary caregivers of seventh-grade adolescents participating in the Taiwan i-Generation Panel Study. Both partners provided responses regarding their perceptions of interactional atmosphere (support and conflict), digital parenting practices (active involvement and restrictive mediation), and marital quality. Results revealed the following: Actor Effects—both partners’ perceptions of support and conflict directly influenced their own marital quality. Partner Effects—husbands’ marital quality was influenced solely by wives’ perceptions of support, whereas wives’ marital quality was influenced by both husbands’ support and conflict perceptions. When digital parenting was included as a mediator, only one significant indirect effect emerged: wives’ conflict perceptions were associated with their own marital quality through their restrictive mediation. The indirect effects of husbands’ conflict perceptions on either partner’s marital quality through wives’ restrictive mediation were not significant. These findings enhance the understanding of family system processes and the mutual spillover effects between marital and parenting behaviors, offering insights for family life education.
