隨著環境意識在先進國家普遍的高漲，生態的價值體系於二十世紀中葉在西方國家開始流傳，取代過去兩百多年來人定勝天的價值體系。為了暸解人們對生態環境所抱持的價值觀，美國環境社會學家Dunlap及Van Liere（1978）發展了一個包含12個項目的量表。在各國的研究裡，這個量表己對不同職業、居住地區、種族、及階級者進行信度及效度的評估。大體來說，此量表的信賴度均在作者認為可接受的程度內。然而有些研究發現，這個量表是否可以真確且持續的反應出不同群體則仍有爭議。在眾多的爭議裡，本文旨在討論跨文化量表應用之有效性，以特定之“新新人類”的大學生為對象作進一步的試測，直接引用前人已翻譯成中文的量表，作信度與效度分析。在與各國的研究發現比較之後，提出此跨文化態度量表設計面臨的問題與建議。

Earlier studies on various populations have suggested that the New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) scale, which Dunlap and Van Liere (1978) developed to measure a new worldview, is a reli able instrument. However, the cross-cultural validity of the NEP scale requires further examination. This study uses a sample of university students to test the reliability and validity of the NEP scale. The special attention is put on cross-cultural validity in terms of content, semantic, technical, criterion, and concept equivalence.
