■Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

The Journal of Social Science and Philosophy is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary social science journal strongly committed to promoting high standards of publication ethics. We follow the code of conduct of the COPE, Committee on Publication Ethics. Any cases of ethical misconduct are treated very seriously and will be dealt with in accordance with the COPE guidelines for best practices in academic publication.

Editorial Independence and Confidentiality

The editors evaluate manuscripts anonymously. Any personal and affiliation information of a submitted paper is not disclosed in the review process to anyone other than the editors and their managerial staff. At least two anonymous reviewers are invited to review a manuscript and provide evaluative opinions for the publication decision.

Duties of Authors

Authors of manuscripts should present an accurate account of the original work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Data and evidence which support the submitted research work should be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient details to permit replication of the obtained results. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Duties of Reviewers

Reviewers assist the editor in making editorial decisions by providing informative and fair opinions for improving a manuscript under review. Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review a manuscript or knows that prompt reviews will be impossible should notify the editor and decline to participate in the review process.

Publication Decision and Fair Policy

Evaluation of a manuscript is accomplished in a fair way, that is, exclusively on the basis of its academic merits such as originality, significance, validity and clarity and of relevance to the journal’s interest and scope. Decision to publish is determined only by such results of evaluation by peers as well as by the editorial board, without regard to the authors’ sexual orientation, race, citizenship, religious belief, or any other non-merit-based factors.

Conflict of Interest

The editors and editorial board will not use unpublished information disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research purposes. Peers who coauthored with the manuscript authors during the past 12 months are not invited to be reviewers. Colleagues who work in the same department as or in an organizational unit close to that of the authors during the past 3 years are not invited as manuscript reviewers. Anyone who has a personal (e.g. a relative or close friend) or financial relationship with the author(s) is not invited to review the manuscripts.

Cooperation in Investigation

Editors will take responsive measures when ethical concerns are raised for a submitted manuscript or a published paper. Such measures generally include contacting the authors and requiring them to respond promptly to ethical complaints. Authors involved in ethical concerns should cooperate with the Journal in the process of investigation. If, on the basis of investigation and gathered evidence, the ethical complaint is upheld, the publication of a correction, retraction, or further communication with the authors’ affiliated institutions may be exercised.
