依據越南阮朝官史《大南寔錄》前編卷五之記載，龍門總兵「楊彥迪」、高雷廉總兵「陳上川」等人於1679年率兵三千餘人投靠當時越南的阮氏政權。阮主授予官職並負責開墾南方，包含現今越南南部的「嘉定」、「定祥」、「邊和」等地。本研究目的擬透過文獻及實地考察方式調查越南明鄉人陳上川的生卒年。本研究發現，陳上川的生卒年在中文文獻與越文獻裡的紀錄稍有不同。中文文獻裡關於陳上川的生卒年均記載為生於1626年、亡於1715年。但越南文獻的紀錄卻不一致：出生年有1600年與1655年二種。卒年則有1700年、1720年及1725年三種。

According to Đại Nam thực lục or Annals of the Đại Nam, Dương Ngạn Địch and Trần Thượng Xuyên, former subordinates of Koxinga, brought three thousand solders to central Vietnam with the permission of the Nguyễn regime in 1679. They were recruited and offered official positions to be in charge of expanding Nguyen’s territory toward the south. Those newly settled lands included the former provinces of Gia Định, Định Tưởng and Biên Hòa. The purpose of this study was to investigate the birth and death years of Trần Thượng Xuyên. The results of the study reveal that the birth and death years of Trần Thượng Xuyên are consistent in Chinese references, both in China and Taiwan, but not consistent in Vietnam. Trần Thượng Xuyên was born in 1626 and died in 1715 according to Chinese references. However, the references in Vietnam show that Trần Thượng Xuyên was born in either 1600 or 1655, and died in 1700, 1720 or 1725.
