Abstract

This study examines the protest trajectory of forced evictees, focusing on Chun-Hsiang Huang, the final protesting resident in the Tainan Railway Anti-Forced Eviction Movement. It explores the meaning of material spaces for the evictee toward gaining a deeper understanding of how bodied experiences and affect drove her long-term engagement in resistance. The study argues that the feminine protesting subject (re)centers the value of protest around “home” and “everyday life,” embodying these concepts through gendered and class-based care practices. By analyzing micro-forms of resistance, this research identifies how the body and protest targets produce intimate affective bonds through practices of “livelihood.” It demonstrates how the will to resist is manifested through the suffering body and embodied daily practices, thus exemplifying the implications of “anti-eviction movements.”
