Call for Papers: Special Issue on Social Policy Development in East Asia

The Journal of Social Sciences and Philosophy (JSSP) is published quarterly by the Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences (RCHSS), Academia Sinica. It is a leading journal indexed in the Taiwan Social Sciences Core Index (TSSCI).  

About the Special Issue
East Asian welfare states are no longer well described by the productivist model of growth-led, family-centred, low-spending social policy. Over the past two decades the region has extended pension coverage, built long-term care systems, and enlarged social assistance and family policy, while population ageing, ultra-low fertility, labour market dualisation, migration, and platform work have reshaped the risks these systems must absorb.
This special issue invites theoretical and empirical work on social policy development in East Asia. Single-country studies and cross-national comparisons are equally welcome. Topics include, but are not limited to, pensions, long-term care, family policy, social assistance, labour market policy, health care, disability and migration policy, and public attitudes towards welfare.

Submission Process
From now until February 28, 2027, this journal invites submissions in both Chinese and English on “Social Policy Development in East Asia.” We welcome manuscripts on social policy, social welfare, sociology, political science, economics, public health, and related interdisciplinary research. Please submit your manuscript via the JSSP submission system (http://jssp.rchss.sinica.edu.tw/) under the “Special Issue on Social Policy Development in East Asia” section. The format of submissions must comply with submission guidelines posted on the JSSP website: https://www.rchss.sinica.edu.tw/jssp/posts/6005. All submissions will be reviewed in accordance with the journal’s standard peer-review procedures as promptly as possible.
