Based on two citizenship survey datasets in 2012 and 2018, this paper mainly focuses on the continuity and change of citizenship and political participation among Taiwan’s public. This paper found that electoral participation and participatory conflict among Taiwan’s public declined to some extent, but opinion expression increased slightly from 2012 to 2018. This paper also found that citizenship has a significant positive impact on both conventional political participation and unconventional political participation. Additionally, the positive linkage between citizenship and political participation was continuous and consistent. Our findings contribute by expanding existing explanations of political participation and understand democratic development in Taiwan. |
