“Ethical Imperialism” and Territorialization: Revisiting Ukita Kazutami’s Discourses on Sovereignty and Area

本文以浮田和民的「倫理帝國主義」為切入點，分析其倫理、主權及領土論述，說明其思想的領土化意涵。以浮田對亞里斯多德 zoon politikon 之詮釋、對特賴契克政治學的譯介及《社會學講義》為線索，本文解析其思想中環繞「國民國家統一」及「主權的發現」展開的帝國區域秩序構想。在此基礎上，本文進而指出第一次世界大戰後，浮田的新亞洲主義論述如何透過領土交換與聯合╱協同的制度設計，使亞洲以「區域」的型態成為帝國領土秩序之政治邏輯展開的場域。

This paper reexamines Ukita Kazutami's "ethical imperialism" and clarifies its logic of territorialization by analyzing his discourses on ethics, sovereignty, and territory. Focusing on his interpretation of Aristotle's zoon politikon, his translation of Heinrich Gotthard von Treitschke's Militaristic Politik, and his lectures on sociology, it identifies an imperial spatial order centered on the "unification of the nation-state" and "discovery of sovereignty." It further demonstrates how, after the First World War, Ukita's New Asianism employed territorial exchange and institutional designs of confederation/ association to transform Asia into an "area" through which the political logic of imperial territorial order unfolded.
