本文所關切的一個主要焦點，基本上是在於馬克思和布勞岱兩人，對於與資本主義體制相關的分析上，在一個較爲宏觀總體理論觀點上的討論。非常概化地來說，關於資本主義體制的發展，及其與社會變遷和文明成長之間的互動關係，馬克思的分析是以所謂「生產方式」的不同來表述；類似的問題，布勞岱的體認則是在於「交換機制」的精巧程度爲核心。當然，不論是從馬克思的觀點，或是布勞岱的立場來看，生產方式或交換機制事實上都是一組結構性概念的指涉，而不是生產過程（領域）或交換過程（領域）的片面強調。

The purpose of this paper is a comparative discussion between Karl Marx and Fernand Braudel of the capitalist system. Generally speaking, regarding the development of the capitalist system and its interaction with social change or with the growth of civilizations, the analytic approaches of Marx and Braudel are quite different. The "mode of production" is the basic strategy in Marx's analysis; in Braudel's thought, the sophistication of the "mechanism of exchange" had its importance, except Marx's recognition. Apart from this, whatever Marx's mode of production or Braudel's mechanism of exchange, they are both refer to a set of complex concepts, rather than just one dimension's emphasis of the process of production or circulation.
