摘要：The progress toward gender equality has stalled since the 1990s which has generated much discussion. One of the puzzles is that women’s educational achievement and labor force participation have grown tremendously, though gender roles within family remain deeply engrained. This study investigates the persistent housework gender gap from a structural perspective by bringing heterosexual unions— a “gender factory”— and gender inequalities in career prospects into discussion. The findings show that in addition to individual factors that previous studies considered, more attention should be paid to gender inequalities in social structures which systematically perpetuate gender inequality in the household.
